Community Chorus, Children’s Choir and special guest soloist, Leanne Talbot, all contributed to a wonderful fresh and varied Spring Concert programme.
The children’s choir was conducted by Darius Lim who had been working with the children throughout the term. Darius is a composer, concert pianist and choral conductor who is spending a year at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama (RWCMD) studying on the Masters course in Choral Conducting. The children’s exciting programme included two of Darius’ own compositions giving us an insight into his work in his native Singapore. The choir has made significant progress under Darius’ guidance and there is a very bright future ahead for this very talented young man.
Another talented musician – soprano soloist, Leanne Talbot – is a former member of the children’s choir and will, herself, soon be taking a masters degree in Music Theatre at the Central School of Music and Drama. Leanne’s performance showed exactly why she has been successful in gaining a place at one of the UK’s foremost performance academies.
The Community Chorus, directed by Rosie Howarth, performed songs from Wales, South Africa and USA plus contemporary choral repertoire. Rosie is also about to start a masters course herself! In September she will be studying on the Masters course in Choral Conducting at the RWCMD. We wish her every success. It will be a great experience for the community chorus to receive the benefit of Rosie’s training over the next two years.
