Blackwood Miners Institute was the setting for the “Children for Children” concert featuring Caerphilly Children’s Choir and BTM “Next Generation” Youth Brass Band. Raising funds for Caerphilly Children’s Centre, the two youthful ensembles treated the enthusiastic audience to a wide range of music.
The Children’s Choir performed two songs by Darius Lim (“Mr Moon” and “The Light Of The Night”) with whom the choir had worked throughout the Spring term, plus compositions by accompanist Sara Hodges (“Let’s make A Cake”) and conductor, Nigel Jones (“Pie Jesu” from “Requiem Cambrensis”), ending with the heart lifting song, “When You Believe” from the animation film “Prince of Egypt”.
The choir’s programme also included solo items from four choristers, two of whom were performing solo for the first time at a choir concert. We had two songs from “Les Miserables”, the folk-style “Dona, Dona” and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s classical music hit, “Pie Jesu”.
“Next Generation” gave a varied and entertaining programme under the expert guidance of their conductor, the irrepressible Mark Hutcherson. One to the highlights of their programme was a solo flugel horn performance of “I Don’t Know How To Love Him” from “Jesus Christ Superstar”.
